Beginning 2018 with a Loss
We've been tossing around the idea of a blog for a while, and we have come to the conclusion that there are some stories that are too long or too important for a social media post, and deeper than an email can cover. So, we're opening 2018 with one such story about losing my Dad to cancer a couple weeks ago.
While this post is a heartbreaker, we hope to use this space to further our mission to spread lively color and share lasting joy. And maybe tell some corny jokes or share our best puns... because Dad would have loved that.
John Eastburn (1950-2018), Loving husband and father
If you follow us on social media, you may have seen our posts about my Dad over the past year. Last March, he was diagnosed with esophageal cancer at the age of 67.
After ten months of treatment and fighting this terrible disease with grit, humor, and grace, Dad passed away on January 12 at home with my Mom, sister, and me at his side. We are comforted that he no longer knows pain, but the depth of this loss is so real and surreal.
We thank you for your patience over the last few months as we cared for our sweet Dad and cherished every minute together. We're doing our best to dig out, shore up, and catch our breath (and catch up on emails).
We appreciate your kindness, prayers, and understanding as we figure out our new normal for our family and our business. We are so grateful for the work as we keep our hands, minds, and hearts focused on making beautiful blooms together.
Dad believed these two things: you can never have too many friends, and strong, smart women are the best women. That said, we think he'd really enjoy our new Valentine's Collection, inspired by the love of many special friendships and the strong, uplifting women that fill our lives.
